We hadn’t seen each other for over a year, and when we met, we kept talking nonstop. I remembered Mr. Wang has a younger brother who is also a taxi driver, so I took the opportunity to ask about his recent situation.<\/p>\n
“He just got divorced.” Mr. Wang looked helpless!<\/p>\n
“What went wrong?” I asked.<\/p>\n
“In recent years, he worked nonstop every day to get the taxi back from the finance company in advance so his family could have a better life. When tired, he’d nap at the airport for hours. Recently, he redeemed the taxi, but his health has gotten sick, and his wife, having been alone for so long, has grown emotionally distant and decided to break up.” Mr. Wang kept shaking his head and sighing. <\/p>\n
That evening, I was going to host a training course. When talking about setting goals for yourself, I asked all the participants a question: “When you reach your goal, the outcome is not what you want. What will you do?” Afterwards, I told them about Mr. Wang’s younger brother’s experience, and the whole class was instantly thrown into confusion.<\/p>\n
All along, business planning, team development, and even personal value theory have emphasized the importance of setting goals. Why do things still go wrong when you have goals? So, after setting goals, do you still owe something?<\/p>\n
Setting a realistic goal can set a helmsman for our careers and lives. With a helmsman, no matter how much storm lies ahead, we have the confidence and ability to overcome difficulties and move toward our goals. So, whether we can reach the goal is a matter of the time left. However, if we only set goals without considering the results, the outcome often turns out unexpectedly.<\/p>\n
Measuring whether a goal can yield ideal results is a very important topic in NLP. Goals are important, but results cannot be ignored either.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text]There are many factors to consider whether a goal has a complete outcome, including evidence, resources, environmental compatibility, control, positive statements, and ecological balance. Take the case of Mr. Wang, a taxi driver, as an example: his motivation behind pursuing the goal was to make his family more prosperous, but he worked day and night while neglecting the ‘ecological balance’ factor of caring for the feelings of those beside him.
